Founded by Vikings in the 9th century and rightly called the Venice of the North Bruges Belgium is one of my all time favorite places on the planet.

Patrick Henry

On this day in 1775, American Patriot Patrick Henry gave his famous speech to the Virginia House of Burgesses. In attendance were Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.

"Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!"

Powerful words.

Sandra Tsing Loh, Mother on Fire

This weekend I saw the very tight one woman show "Mother on Fire" written and starring the very talented and honest Sandra Tsing Loh.
Except for what now seems to be the obligatory Red State vs. Blue State commentary ie: at one point Sandra asks the audience to identify their political parties (I am sick unto death of Partisan Blabbering) the show is a very amusing and intelligent essay on Parenting in LA. In addition to Tsing Loh, the show also evidences excellent direction by David Schweizer and Bart DeLorenzo as well as a very useful and well-designed set by Jerry Buszek.
Recommended.
It is playing through April at the 24th Street Theatre here in Los Angeles

Crossword Puzzle, The Movie "Proof" and Roast Chicken

I had a weekend that approached perfection.
Including: A Crossword Puzzle, My wife's fantastic Roasted Chicken and the absolutely brilliant film "Proof" with Home run acting by Jake Gyllenhaal, Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins and Hope Davis based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by David Auburn and wonderfully directed by John Madden (Who we should be hearing more about, this guy is great!)

What's behind the Curtain? Fibonacci Numbers

They say an Italian mathematician Fibonacci first discovered these numbers and described them in his book "Liber Abaci," in 1202. But there was also an Indian Mathematician Pingala who mentioned them in 500 BC. I don't want to start an international incident over this so lets move on.
Fibonacci Numbers occur repetitively throughout nature.
Textism has a fantastic and brief Flash animation on them.

The Third Law of Planetary Motion, Sitcoms and Scandinavian Hamburgers

On this day in 1618, the near blind German Mathematician Johannes Kepler (Or as I like to call him Mr. Ellipse) discovered The Third Law of Planetary motion:
The squares of the orbital periods of planets are directly proportional to the cubes of the semi-major axis of the orbits.
Newton later used this law as support for his Theory of Gravity.

And on this day in 2006 I am going in for a sitcom meeting!

Also:Bergen, Norway is a beautiful city with a fascinating museum dedicated to the Hanseatic League as well as (along with most of the rest of Europe) a McDonald's.

The Job of Acting

I am an Actor. It is what I do, but it is not all I am.
I view acting as a job like any other.
Where some people work in the Upholstery Business, I work in the Story Business.
It is my opinion that my job as an actor is to tell the story inside my head.
(Spencer Tracy described acting as learning your lines and concentrating, I could go along with that as well.)
I read a great piece on Acting by the sometimes grumpy always fantastic Anthony Hopkins that I have included here.

Went to Disneyland yesterday, had fun.
