Paul Parducci's Next Movie Project

Sorry for the grandiose Title but it helps with the search.

Since House Jesus in 2004 I've written three screenplays, Wrote and Directed as well as produced and acted in the Nightmare Boss Mobi/webisode series and worked various and sundry Acting jobs.
But through it all I have been artistically restless.
"House Jesus" which is available online as well as linked to this site, was in many ways a personal breakthrough for me as a filmmaker. Although I had been moving in this direction since EVP-by the way I want to thank everyone out there who continue to support this film)Because of it, I couldn't go back to doing things the way I did them before.

With the success of "Nightmare Boss," the next logical step for me should be a comedy feature, but it's not there.

So for months now I've been outlining and chasing various ideas that have all ended in dead-ends... Until now.

I am 22 pages into the script for the next feature length project that I will be making. It is a Dark contemporary piece.

I've decided to periodically Blog about the entire process from Script to Screen.

Stay tuned.

PS: I'll be traveling for the next week so as is usually the case when I'm with suitcase, I will not be posting-but I'll catch you all up when I get back.

Johnny Appleseed and the Church of the New Jerusalem

When I was a kid I remember frequently hearing about Johnny Appleseed.
Everybody(my teachers) seemed to think it was of tremendous value to the United States that he planted Apple trees everywhere.
To this day deep down I feel that Apple trees are fantastic.
Anyway, on this day in 1774 Mr. Chapman(his real name) was born.
You can learn all about him here.

Fun Fact: Like Helen Keller, Johnny Appleseed was a follower of Emanuel Swedenborg he was in fact a missionary for the church he founded(The Church of the New Jerusalem.)

Primer

Last night I saw Shane Carruth's excellent Sci-Fi Thriller "Primer."
It's playing on Showtime this month.
It won Top Honors at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival and it deserved it.
Well written, directed and acted this work delves into the human Algebra surrounding the control of time.
Here is Roger Eberts review.
Highly recommended.

One of Those Great SoCal Weekends!

Friday night: The Dodgers vs The Padres . (The Boys in Blue won!) It was an outing organized by my son's school, the parents, teachers and kids are all terrific. (I've known many of them for years) and we all got hats!

Saturday: Paintball with a bunch of my closest friends. My great friend Mark is marrying his best gal Michelle and in lieu of a typical Bachelor party we did this and had a blast! For those of you who haven't played those paint balls hurt and for days after you get to show off very macho and Soldierly welts. (My son was impressed or at least pretended to be.) Then watched said son play fantastic football as he and his team carried the day!

Sunday: Hanging out with my family. Annual Church Bar-B -Que etc.
I am a grateful man!

The Genius of the Crowd: Charles Bukowski

The Genius Of The Crowd

there is enough treachery, hatred violence absurdity in the average human being to supply any given army on any given day

and the best at murder are those who preach against it
and the best at hate are those who preach love
and the best at war finally are those who preach peace

those who preach god, need god
those who preach peace do not have peace
those who preach peace do not have love

beware the preachers
beware the knowers
beware those who are always reading books
beware those who either detest poverty
or are proud of it
beware those quick to praise
for they need praise in return
beware those who are quick to censor
they are afraid of what they do not know
beware those who seek constant crowds
for they are nothing alone
beware the average man the average woman
beware their love, their love is average
seeks average

but there is genius in their hatred
there is enough genius in their hatred to kill you
to kill anybody
not wanting solitude
not understanding solitude
they will attempt to destroy anything
that differs from their own
not being able to create art
they will not understand art
they will consider their failure as creators
only as a failure of the world
not being able to love fully
they will believe your love incomplete
and then they will hate you
and their hatred will be perfect

like a shining diamond
like a knife
like a mountain
like a tiger
like hemlock

their finest art

Last night I saw the excellent documentary. Bukowski: Born Into This

9-11: I Remember

Five Years ago at sometime before 6 AM Pacific time my friend Matt called me. His words were simple, "Turn on the TV, someone just flew a plane into the World Trade Center on purpose."

My wife and I then watched the dark oily smoke as it billowed from the side of the North Tower. Could this be an accident? But that line of thought ended at 6:03 when United Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower.

My son was five years old at the time. And I remember feeling despair...War. Explanations would be for much later. But for that morning: cereal and cartoons in the family room.

The Pentagon was struck. How wide was this attack?

We watched the report of Flight 93 and simultaneously said the same thing: "There were heroes on that flight."

There were many Heroes that day and many since.

Nothing I can write today is worthy of this tragedy.

Although I live in Los Angeles now, I grew up in New Jersey and lived in New York City for ten years, it is a town I love, a magic place filled with a buzzing energy unmatched by any other city in the world.

I have it seems a limitless supply of snap shot thoughts about this day, like polaroids dipped in sad water and left out to dry on a tarred city roof:

Civilians: Men, Women and Children!

I never got to the top of the World Trade Center.

They were beautiful on that day I took a circle line cruise just before I left for the west coast.

My brother Bill who died in July 2001 was a construction genius. Would he have been involved somehow?

Loss, a chasm of Loss.

And on and on...

Five years later we are still here. Both the idea and the country of America is working as it has since 1776.

As I write this, my son now ten is beginning his fifth grade day. My wife gathers the leash to walk our shelter rescue character of a dog Shadow, and I remember.

I remember.
